Ramdane Touhami
For Ramdane, everything began with an iconoclastic t-shirt created in 1993, “Teuchy”. Its success in the modest skating and hip-hop scene soon reached much further. In the enthusiastic hubbub, Ramdane launched “King Size”: the first French skating clothing line with the motto of “French savoir-faire finally comes to skateboarding”.
In 1997 he launch L’Epicerie. The approach was deliberately militant: with co-founder Artus de Lavilléon, Ramdane supported designers as artists, produced clothing as artwork, financed fashion shows as exhibits, while also creating his own collection (150 pieces) and honing his experience with events, image, press, “buzz”. One of his most notable exploits with the Epicerie was relaunching the camouflage
print (1998), giving it a bright future in fashion with other designers, whom the spirit of the Epicerie still continues to influence.
On April 25th 2000, Ramdane moved to Tokyo to lead the complete remodelling of the Japanese chain And.A, a brand carried by a network of thirteen boutiques. This mission was assigned to him from start to finish, with the objective to renovate and restore the rather disin-
tegrated brand image.
In 2003, the famous London department store “Liberty” approa- ched Ramdane with a purchasing and artistic direction mission for the men’s sector. Under his impetus, the entire men’s line and its merchandising was reconceived. Ramdane selected the best labels from around the world for Liberty, opening the door to new brands, bringing in the essential great classics with pieces from small trendy brands, combining – in an ideal walk-in closet of 56 brands – street spirit with the height of chic. While working for Liberty, Ramdane noticed that clothing options for men were missing something. He couldn’t find THE brand he could see himself in. To create this missing link, he launched R.T. a second brand, Resistance, was inspired by a more urban universe and sported a more dissenting and iconoclastic tone. Before they became trendy, he put revolutionary figures at the forefront. With Resistance, Ramdane democratised the idea of the guerrilla shop (2004) before the wave of pop-up stores.
In 2006, the owner of Cire Trudon, a French wax company offered Ramdane the opportunity to relaunch the company with him. This was an illustrious company that had been asleep for over one hundred years. Ramdane returned to the original name and perfected the original vegetable wax formula, Twenty fragrances were created for the line of scented candles. Each has a history, often connected to the company’s history, which fits within the great history of France : Marquise, the Sun King, Madame de Lavallière, Trianon…
In 2010, Ramdane moves to New York with his family and launch the 27 octobre 2011 Ramdane, his new men and women clothing line with the opening of a store 54 Kenmare Street in Nolita.
